Participation constitutes full and unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of, these contest rules. This contest is subject to, and all Eligible Participants shall comply with, all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.
1. Artworks without written descriptions, while will be accepted, may be counted against the submission when deciding winners. Written descriptions must talk about all entry submissions. Participants do not need to submit separate written descriptions per artwork. Written description must include if you used AI generation in your process and if so, how it was utilized. Preference will be given to those who did not heavily rely on an AI generator.
2. Artwork must be original work of participant and is not copied from another work, photography, illustration, website and does not infringe any third part intellectual property rights. Artworks may utilize AI for inspiration, but your artwork cannot be directly copied from the AI generator. If we suspect your artwork is directly copied from an AI generator, we may ask you to resubmit your artwork with changes to reflect your own work, otherwise your artwork will be subject to disqualification. Artworks containing the SEDS logo may not be used for submission to other art competitions.
3. Artworks should be submitted as a digital file in either .svg, .jpg or .png format. Note: The image does not need to be square. The artist will be contacted if a higher resolution image is needed.
4. All forms of art such as sculptures, collages, photography, oil paintings, paper art, jewelry, etc. are accepted if you are not creating merchandise.
5. Any submissions that include obscenities, objectionable material, defames or invades the publicity or privacy rights of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringes upon any third party’s personal or proprietary rights, publicity rights, will be disqualified.
6. Entries that are incomplete, illegible, or corrupted are void and will not be accepted.
7. Submissions, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material will become the property of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS). Participation in the contest gives permission to SEDS to use, reproduce, prepare derivative works, publish, distribute copies to the public, perform publicly, and display publicly the submission, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material, including but not limited to, Applicant’s name, school, grade/level of study, and any photographs and/or videos containing the Applicant’s image and/or voice, for all purposes deemed appropriate by SEDS. SEDS may distribute the submission, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material through a variety of media, including but not limited to print, websites, social media, or any other means. SEDS may also permit a third party to exercise SEDS’ rights, including but not limited to the right to display or distribute the submission, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material, in a manner SEDS deems appropriate.
8. Submissions may be eligible for appearance at SpaceVision 2023 but that no further compensation of any kind will be paid by SEDS or any of its authorized third parties to use, reproduce, prepare derivative works, publish, distribute, perform publicly and/or display publicly the submission, any ancillary material, or student information, image or voice as provided for in this agreement. Participation in the contest unconditionally releases SEDS, its staff, SEDS’ partners and their employees, and SEDS representatives from any and all claims and demands arising out of the activities authorized under these contest rules.
9. Winners do not need to be present at SpaceVision 2023. However, failure to respond to the email notification to potential winners in a timely manner shall result in forfeiture of the prize and, in such case, an alternate potential winner will be selected from among the remaining eligible entries.
10. Applicants must be current SEDS members from either high school, community college, or university chapters.
Eligible Entries will be judged by representatives from SEDS and SpaceVision 23 shirt and award sponsors. ENTRIES MAY BE REVIEWED ON A ROLLING BASIS AS THEY ARE RECEIVED. One winner will be selected. Winners will be announced in September 15, 2023. Entries will be judged based upon the following criteria:
Creativity and originality
Quality and execution
Adherence to the theme
Overall impression
Once judges have selected the winners, the winning artists will be notified using the provided email address. The winners will be selected and notified no later than September 12, 2023.
